Discovering Purim: A Supplemental Curriculum from Diarna is a package of lessons designed by Diarna researcher and Wellesley Alumna Yael Gafni to enhance learning about Purim in the classroom. It seeks to educate students in Grades 4-7 about the physical context of the Purim story by allowing them to actively engage in the research process. Students decide for themselves the modern location of Shushan and learn to navigate its streets using the Google Earth layer developed by Diarna. They also can view photos from Diarna’s collection and watch an exclusive interview with Yassi (Elias) Gabbay, the architect who in the 1970s restored the traditional Tomb of Mordechai and Esther.

See Diarna’s Purim Curriculum below, and click here to download its accompanying Google Earth layer.

Praise for Diarna

Diarna’s ability to give contemporary voice to an important aspect of Jewish history, while successfully collaborating with other institutions, distinguishes it as an emerging leader in the field. I feel a great sense of pride knowing that Diarna, an organization dedicated to the preservation of Arab-Jewish history, exists with such eloquence and relevancy in today’s technological world. — Dana Raucher, Executive Director of The Samuel Bronfman Foundation
